2008-11-10 [Yuriona]: Bad Jitter! You forgot to thumbnail! LOL!
Question though: is fanart allowed? :P
2008-11-10 [Jitter]: I did? Heh soryy!
Meh if it's not I'll just turn his eyes red :P
2008-11-10 [Yuriona]: LMAO!
2008-11-10 [Jitter]: ;) I will probably make something new though anyway, especially judging from how many times I changed my fairy and elf entries :P
2008-11-10 [Yuriona]: You just wanted the first spot. :P
2008-11-10 [Jitter]: I just happened to have a drow at the ready :P
2008-11-10 [Falx]: I hope this is all right.
2008-11-10 [Artsieladie]: I knew it! I saw the changes already and so I took bets that [Jitter] was here first thing and yupper, I was right! Cool! I don't mind you making changes. It gives me a chance to view several of your lovely art pieces. ;) [Falx], yours is fine to me. :)
2008-11-10 [Falx]: Good, I was hoping dark elves were all right, since the Kazyreth from my story aren't really drow. ><
2008-11-10 [Artsieladie]: Well, I'm thinking they can be classified as different and the same, depending I guess. This is from Wikipedia: Dark Elves
In Scottish Folklore:
"The <i>Drow or the dark elves are the Shetland Isle equivalent of the Trow, but unlike the trow, they are thought of as exclusively malicious."</i>
I'm definitely interested in the thoughts of others here about this. ;)
2008-11-10 [Falx]: I suppose it would depend on if we're using the definition (which is more general) of drow from wikipedia or if we're talking strictly Forgotten Realms...
2008-11-10 [Jitter]: The D&D Drow are also called Dark Elves. Drizzt's very own trilogy is called "The Dark Elf Trilogy" :)
2008-11-10 [Future Dictator]: ooo joining
2008-11-12 [arthemis_]: Me too! I never drew a drow...
2008-11-14 [Linn Scarlett]: But then again the Warhammer evil-elves are also called Dark Elves, and the Warcraft Night Elves were orignally designed as Dark Elves, even though they made it into the good-guys party. Whereas now the Blood Elves are the Dark Elves. And Technically speaking, Dragonlance also has... *adjusts glasses* ...did I just hear someone's brain explode?
*desides not to care too much and carries on spewing random info about Drow while rubbing the bits of brain from her robes* The name 'Drow' is actually, lore wise, coined by the elven elder God Corellon Larethian, head of the elven pantheon, after the Ssri'tel Quessir, a group of High Elves, assisted his ex-spouse/girl
Notice how 'Drow' is the reverse of 'Word'. /end random lecture
2008-11-14 [Linn Scarlett]: Sorry artsie, I just couldn't resist :3 For now I'll stick with Meldor, actually, as its more recent than the one of Linnerial and Fearn. But, as I have like a kazillion drawings I am working on, I might put a new one up. I've a really nice one laying around of Galk Manflayer and Zammzt Sinssoroth :3
2008-11-15 [Hedda]: There are plenty of already submitted drow arts on Drow submissions, Drow Contest and Drow contest 2.
You could ask the best ones to resubmit their drows here too.
The drow page could use some more pictures right away and maybe a fancier layout at the top. (Maybe dividing the entire page in a table with text to the left and images to the right as we have so many images? Or Images to the left... Hm...)
2008-11-15 [Artsieladie]: Oh, please! Do not apologise, [Linn Scarlett]! I love your art! As well I love listening to the knowledge that just so effortlessly flows from thy lips! *listened intently trying to grasp it all* :)
[Hedda], I thought about just announcing this link on those pages you mention. I wouldn't step in and even suggest that I know which the best ones really are, because it would just be 'my' opinion. :P
About the Drow page, perhaps, Linn would like the honour of fixing the page? *winks at Linn* :)
2008-11-16 [Linn Scarlett]: After you messed it up? ;) All right as soon as I've figured out how this new html stuff works, I will
2008-11-16 [Artsieladie]: lol I can help you with the tables if you want. :)
2008-11-16 [Linn Scarlett]: That would be much appreciated :3
2008-11-16 [Artsieladie]: Very well, then. I'll set up a faff page for it and PM you the link. Unless you want to set up a faff page. Either way, I'm easy, well, um, sometimes. ;) Then we can jump in there and really have some fun messing things up! *giggles*
2008-11-16 [Linn Scarlett]: You go right ahead, I am on your heels :)
2008-11-17 [Kahri]: Does anyone know how to save the quality of of drawing when you upload it? I can't get it to look the way it's supposed to!!!
2008-11-17 [moira hawthorne]: load it larger? is it squish down to 500px from a much larger work file?
2008-11-17 [Kahri]: Well the image size that I started with is 1440 x 1440 pixels.
2008-11-17 [Linderel]: You have priv 99, so you should be able to upload the image directly onto the wiki. In the wiki status box on the right, there is a button saying 'Upload a file'. Press that and follow the instructions.
2008-11-17 [Kahri]: WOOT! That is so much better! Thanks!
2008-11-17 [moira hawthorne]: yes much nicer... the auto compression on the upload on houses isnt very kind to art!
2008-11-18 [Kahri]: That is for sure!
2008-11-18 [Linn Scarlett]: Especially not the way it crops to the pre-defined borders, which sucks. As I mostly have upright rather than square art :/
2008-11-20 [Artsieladie]: Ok, will do, Linn. :) I'm glad the image issue got resolved for you [Kahri]! We prefer large images. :) Thanks [Linderel] for your help! :) All of my art is usually very huge, because they need to be huge for T-shirts. But I usually resize the image to 500 W and save that 500 one just for the slot in the house. It's better to resize it in the program, rather than have ET do the resizing. :P
2008-11-20 [Linn Scarlett]: That too, of course :)
2008-12-07 [Black Raven]: Wow!I like all
2008-12-09 [Linn Scarlett]: *ponders on other random information* purple or violet-blue eyes are often an indication of blindness amongst Drow. Blue eyes denote a lessened sight as well, but this is mostly due to the human blood producing the blue eyes (deminished night vision and all that). Normal colour ranges are yellowish-oran
2008-12-09 [Linn Scarlett]: Same goes with most hair colours. Normal is everything from moderate light grey shades to snow and blue white to pearl coloured. Everything else is defiant in one way or another. Pearling or yellowing (can be) a sign of old age. If a Drow gets lucky and hits 400-500 years their hair might get a distinct old-cobweb sort of colour. (note: naturally this implies that Meldor either paints or magics his hair white, as he's near 500 and it's still the same colour as his centuries younger son's) Metallic colours are rare, some see them as 'special' (psychics, seers, gifted otherwise) or mixed breeds. On the latter account distinct blonde, brown and red earth towns are much more common results of mixed blood. Funky hair colours either indicate an outrageously expensive hairdresser or demon/devil blood. Snow white and blue white seem to be the most popular hair colours and I am quite sure half the nobles have their hair dyed with whatever means to achieve this colour as these really really really bright whites are actually quite rare. Like white-blonde and really thoroughly blue-black are quite rare amongst us. Ok. Unless you're Scandinavian or Scottish. But ehhh you get my idea.
2008-12-09 [Linn Scarlett]: /end randomness :P
2008-12-10 [Jitter]: I feel so proud that I already knew these :3
2008-12-10 [Linn Scarlett]: *chuckles* good good ^_^
2008-12-11 [Artsieladie]: Thank you for your words of wisdom, Linn. Your randomness I appreciate. :)
2008-12-24 [Linn Scarlett]: I can't help it sometimes :P
2008-12-25 [Artsieladie]: I know. I prefer randomness and spontaneity anyhow, though. It falls under the theory I like so much of thinking and being not afraid to do stuff 'outside the box'. ;P
2008-12-30 [Linn Scarlett]: Ehh I've just started a big phat parody on my stay at this site, along with a friend we are writing a story and put everybody in, in slightly different positions, with slightly different looks, and different names. But if you know who they are supposed to be, its glaringly obvious :p
2008-12-31 [Artsieladie]: Hmm.. sounds interesting. :)
2009-01-02 [Linn Scarlett]: its hilarious :P especially since we each had a minor crush on someone, which is being horribly abused in the story :p
2009-01-02 [Artsieladie]: Hmm... sounds more interesting! ;)
2009-01-02 [arthemis_]: Finished... What do you guys think?
2009-01-03 [arthemis_]: It was a challenge indeed. But I like it, makes the portrayed more important or something...
2009-01-22 [Linn Scarlett]: Hmm contemplating on making a new one... This picture is already more than a month old that I've up now...
2009-01-22 [allenp]: lol....a month....mines looking at 6 years! :)
2009-01-23 [moira hawthorne]: mine is old aswell... but i gave him abit of a facelift in recolouring...
2009-01-23 [Artsieladie]: Linn, your entry is stiil good! It doesn't appear to be 'spoiled', yet, after a month. *wiesenheimer grin* [allenp]'s is still superb after 6 years! The preservation is remarkable! lol *ish in a silly mood*
Very nice, Moira! :) Me liking all the Drows!
I'm going to have to put up in bold print asking for Titles with entries, please!, because I need titles with the entries, and something more than just "Drow". ;P Thank you to everyone who has. :)
2009-01-24 [Artsieladie]: Thank you for the titles! Luffles all for your co-operation! :D
2009-01-24 [Falx]: Thought y'all might get a chuckle out of this. He's my drow scout.
2009-02-05 [Morphea]: Finally I am done with my entry!!!
2009-02-05 [moira hawthorne]: a white drow! Ha! thats the way I always perceived them...
2009-02-05 [Morphea]: The title was something that just popped up in my head when I was finished. Any other suggestions for a title is most welcome ;)....And if there is a problem of her being whitish grey and not dark grey in her skincolor please let me know and I will withdraw my entry.
2009-02-06 [Jitter]: She could be an albino drow. We had one once in our D&D and she was exiled for that :P ALthough she's definitely not typical. And the contest is supposed to be for typical drows. Sorry honey :(
2009-02-06 [moira hawthorne]: typical is such a nasty word... like mundane1 boring!
2009-02-06 [Morphea]: hehe [Jitter] An albino.....goo
I have no problem of darkening her skin but I`ll wait until [Linn Scarlett] has voiced her oppinion.
Just hope I get an answer so I have time to do it before the deadline.
I kinda like her pale skin. It was not intended to be this light but I liked what I saw when I was painting it. I think all artist have had this experience....
2009-02-06 [Morphea]: "And the contest is supposed to be for typical drows. Sorry honey :("......AH sorry ...did not see that......I will darken her then :D
2009-02-06 [Jitter]: I know what you mean. Some of my best works mutated their own way x)
[Morphea] I can't find it where it says so but all ECMs so far were about the typical looks of the creature :/ I really love your albino there though, maybe you could make a dark skinned one too and leave that one be? :o
2009-02-07 [Morphea]: I know that ECMs are about the most typical. But I liked her this way so much that I hoped no one would notice. LOL Can`t blame a girl for trying ;) ;P hihi I am now in the prosess of darkening her skin.
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: I hope it works and won't ruin her! Good luck :3
2009-02-07 [Morphea]: `Well.... it is changed.
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: Oooh I still like :D Go you :D
2009-02-07 [Morphea]: Thanks :D Me like yours.Go you too ;) ;P
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: Thanks! I think I'll make a new one for this though.
2009-02-07 [Morphea]: ohh ... but I love this one !!! Ah well...I am sure I will love your new one aswell ;)
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: Hehe thanks!
2009-02-07 [Artsieladie]: Personally, I'm against 'typical', because typical represents limitations and therefore restricts, freedom: freedom of creativity and expression, which ultimately is really an enemy of fantasy, because fantasy is all about having no boundaries. I also think that for the Elftown Creature Marathon to have the most informative pages, then typical disallows the "most" part. I like both of your versions, [Morphea], actually. If you wouldn't mind, I would prefer that you place both here, even if only one goes into the poll, because your first one is a representation of a little different Drow and I like it! :D
2009-02-07 [Morphea]: I would most definetly don`t mind to have both entries up, but there is only one little snag about that.... the rules state that only one entry per member is allowed.
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: To be honest, if we want to make the best info page online it is silly to allow only one entry and not several per participant cause then we would have a bigger array of images to select. Just a thought
2009-02-07 [Morphea]: Yes I must say I agree with that assesment
2009-02-07 [Artsieladie]: *winks* I know, [Morphea]. This is why I said:
I would prefer that you place both here, even if only one goes into the poll...
In other words, you are still welcome to display both here. ;)
I also agree with you, [Jitter], because artists that are say, into Drow art, are more than likely wanting to make more than one Drow piece. :)
2009-02-07 [nehirwen]: My entry will have a background sooner or later, still working on it. :)
2009-02-07 [Artsieladie]: Yes! As soon as I saw "wiki changes", I raced over here! Thank you, dear! :-D
As far as allowing more than one entry, I'd like to know what others feel about this. Rules can always be changed and/or amended if there is just cause or reason. *winks*
2009-02-07 [nehirwen]: Thanks! ^__^
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: Woo Nehi, just owned once again :)
2009-02-07 [Future Dictator]: thats awesome nehirwen
lol im trying to finish mine but everytime i try to add spiders i spazz out and erase them haha
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: You can add webs ;)
2009-02-07 [Future Dictator]: i have a web :D
yeah im gonna give up on the spider haaha real ones make me cry
2009-02-07 [Jitter]: You wouldn't want to stumble upon certain of my artworks >xD
2009-02-08 [Future Dictator]: o i finally got it uploaded properly haaa
im slow :D
2009-02-08 [Future Dictator]: i was actually going to put one on her shoulder but that would require looking at reference pictures and having a heart attack
2009-02-08 [Jitter]: Nehi& Dictator's entries= EYECANDY!!
2009-02-09 [Jitter]: I what now? xD
2009-02-21 [Kuruni]: Tah Dah!
2009-02-21 [Kuruni]: Is that good? :D
2009-02-21 [Artsieladie]: Thank you! Excellent! :D
2009-02-21 [Kuruni]: yay!
2009-02-22 [Kyrinn]: Thanks Artsie! :D I hope to be able to clean her up a bit more but its a crazy week at work so I went ahead and posted her anyway. *beams* And yeah, the spiders will be flocking back!
2009-02-22 [Future Dictator]: good stuff everyone!
2009-02-22 [Kyrinn]: Heh, yeah. :D And thank you! I love her eyes. >:D
2009-02-22 [Kuruni]: i love her skin color!
2009-02-27 [arthemis_]: There are so many great pieces here... This is gonna be so hard!
2011-02-24 [Kuruni]: I just noticed!! thanks ^^
