Welcome to the Elftown Prose Contest. If you can't follow the rhythm of poetry, or just like writing stories, this is the contest for you!

<img:stuff/2237_wiki_help_9y7vcgcflr5.jpg>

Theme: Secret Life of your Neighbour

Have you ever thought your neighbour might be a witch or perhaps an alien? Well now's your chance to prove it! Write a story about the secret life your creature neighbour leads. They can be any fictional creature you can think of.

Rules:

1 - The story MUST be written by you. If anyone is found to be stealing someone else's work they will be disqualified from this and all future official Prose contests.
2 - No fan-fiction in this contest. We accept that you may be inspired somewhere, but if you write a story with a land called Marmia containing Baslam the lion, it's not going to cut it with us. Original work here please.
3 – The story must be no less than 500 words and no more than 3000.
4 – No pornography or excessive violence please. Use your common sense as to what would be acceptable and what not, but the judges' decision in this matter is final.
5 - Quality restrictions. If you want us to put effort into reading the story, put effort into writing it. Stories with exceptionally bad spelling and/or grammar will be disqualified at the judges' discretion. Note: We realise that typos are one thing, and laziness quite another. We will distinguish between the two here.

Judging:

The stories will be judged on:
a) How well your story fits the theme.
b) Creativity, originality and plot.
c) Format - Proper paragraphs, spelling, grammar, use of vocabulary etc.

The stories will be judged by:
- [Elegy - gone]
- [Blaithin]
- [Linderel]
(subject to change / announcements)

The contest is monitored by the Council and Assembly.

Deadline:

December 7th, 2006

2006-10-10 [noobkila4lyfe]: And how do i make a wiki page???

2006-10-10 [Ir-Iddyn]: guide to the pseudo HTML on elftown. This has everything you need to know about making a wiki page. Or you can try Crash Course Wiki Construction. *shameless spamming* *hangs head* :P

2006-10-11 [Slavork]: wiki help is more useful. or just look at the index.

2006-11-12 [Misty Lady]: I know the competition is about a neighbour who may be a witch or an alien but wondered if it could be an ordinary person who has an hidden secret.

2006-11-13 [Keseken]: I second that.

2006-11-13 [Blaithin]: Considering this is a Sci-Fi and Fantasy community we would prefer there to be some element of that in the story. If you are able to conduct a plot in which the neighbour is ordinary but the secret is some how fantasy or sci-fi then that would be perfectly fine as long as there's something like that involved :)

2006-11-13 [Keseken]: Wow. The deadline is coming up! I didn't even realize that. >> << >>

2006-11-13 [Misty Lady]: okay thank you Blaithin.

2006-11-21 [Caterin S.]: Hi, I'd love to enter with my story I've been writing just for this competition, but it's a bit... weird I might say, so I'm not pretty sure if it would fit in the rules. There is the element of fantasy and supernatural of course and the weird neighbour, but a kind of opposite way. Would some of the judges like to read it first just to make sure? It's not yet complitely finished, I'll be fixing the vocabulary and so on.

2006-11-22 [Blaithin]: Feel free to submit it Caterin. If it doesn't follow the theme then it just won't win, you can still get pointers to help you though :)

2006-11-22 [Caterin S.]: Okey, thanks a lot. I just have to work with it some more. I have the basic plot and what's happening, but it still needs some spice to it. :)

2006-11-22 [Firenze]: Just a little confused, but the deadline on mainstreet says this contest ends on the 12th December but on here it says the deadline is the 7th December so which date is the deadline?

2006-11-22 [Linderel]: Probably a little brain glitch. :) The correct date is the 7th.

2006-11-22 [Firenze]: Possibly, thank you <img:img/mood/44166_1164145221.gif>

2006-11-25 [Raesha]: are the creatures limited to aliens or witches or can we write about things like angels?

2006-11-25 [Linderel]: As it says on the top of the page... "They can be any fictional creature you can think of." :)

2006-11-25 [Raesha]: oops. sorry.

2007-03-04 [Fizban]: When is the next contest going to be? <_< >_>

2007-03-04 [Linderel]: There are no prose contests currently planned. You'll know when the next is when it opens. ;)

2007-03-05 [Fizban]: kk :)

2008-05-11 [Sagacious Turkey]: ...
