Listening Machine. Macromedia Flash, 2008.
My first actual piece of work done for the MA. This is my submission for the Reactive Media module. It is an answer to the challenge of creating an interactive piece of work that isn't controlled with a keyboard or mouse. It's also a reply to "These Machines Are Alarmed" – which is very much a speaking machine – as some audiences didn't respond well to the long periods of listening that the piece involved: they were too impatient. So I decided to turn the tables and make the viewer the talker, and present him with a machine that'll be powered by speech.
The viewer must make a very long continuous sound to see the machine animated and working all the way to the end.
